Why I Built Roof Guidance

My name is Pawel, and I’m a roofer based here in Texas. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re standing in your driveway right now, staring up at your roof, trying to figure out if you’re about to get scammed, overcharged, or both. I get it. That’s exactly why this site exists.

Where This Started

I didn’t grow up planning to spend my life on roofs. Like most people in this trade, I learned it the hard way — on the job, one mistake at a time, with nobody handing me a manual. What surprised me wasn’t how hard the physical work was. It was how little honest information existed for the people on the other side of the ladder — the homeowners writing the check.

When I was starting out, I looked for resources to understand this industry better — pricing norms, what separates a good contractor from a bad one, how insurance claims actually work in Texas. There wasn’t much out there. Years later, working roof after roof across DFW and beyond, I kept running into the same homeowners asking the same desperate questions: Am I being overcharged? Do I actually need a full replacement or just a repair? How do I know if this contractor is legit? And the honest answer is — there still isn’t much out there for them either. Nothing has changed.

What I Actually Know

I’m not a marketing company pretending to understand roofs, and I’m not a content writer paraphrasing articles I found on Google. I know roofing from the inside — what a hailstorm actually does to a Texas roof versus what an insurance adjuster claims it did, how material choice plays out over ten Texas summers, what a fair estimate looks like versus one padded to take advantage of someone who’s never done this before, and how the permitting and inspection process actually works city to city across the state.

I’ll also be straight about where my knowledge ends. I’m not an insurance adjuster, an architect, or a lawyer, and when a question crosses into that territory, I’ll say so and point you toward someone who is.

The Gap I Kept Running Into

Here’s the problem, plainly: everything a homeowner finds when they search for roofing help falls into one of two buckets. Either it’s a page built by a roofing company whose entire goal is to get you to call them — which means it’s going to tell you whatever gets you on the phone, not what’s actually true for your situation. Or it’s generic, AI-assembled filler that reads like it was written by someone who has never actually stood on a roof, doesn’t know Texas weather, and can’t tell you anything specific enough to actually help you make a decision.

What’s missing is the person in the middle — someone who’s actually done the work, has no contract to sell you, and will just tell you the truth about your specific situation.

What I’m Going to Do About It

So that’s what RoofGuidance is. Every page on this site is going to be built around one real decision a Texas homeowner is trying to make — not a keyword, a decision. I’m not going to write “what is a roof” articles. I’m going to write the stuff I wish existed when I was learning this trade, and the stuff my customers wish existed every single week: real cost breakdowns by city, honest repair-vs-replace guidance, the actual questions to ask a contractor before you sign anything, and straight answers about materials that hold up in Texas heat and hail — not generic advice copied from a site written for a different climate.

Where I get something wrong or a situation doesn’t go the way I expected, I’ll say that too. This isn’t a sales page dressed up as a blog.
